Thread: afternoon fishing trip on lake norman on dec 16th

got a chance to break away for 3 hours to fish lake norman for some striper last week in the afternoon and whatever else would bite up that way. put out two down rods with shiners on each one and was casting a little fishie into the hothole down near the cowan's ford dam at the south end of the lake. water temp was 73 degrees at the mouth of the hothole. didn't get a reading out in the main lake proper cause I didn't drop the trolling motor out that way.

Fished for 2 hours to account for travel time. Ended up catching 2 stripers. One was 16 inches the other 19 inches. Not big enough to be keepers on Lake Norman. Also caught two spotted bass. One spotted bass and one striper on the down rods and one spotted and the larger of the two striper on the little fishie casted up near the rocks along the shore and burned back to the boat. Next time I am up that way might try freelining the minnows and see how I do.

I did watch this one fella. He was killing the fish. He was setup in his boat off a hump that ran out into the water on the right side of the hothole as it comes down into the main lake channel. Most people I have ever seen fishing in there throws something that at least looks similar to a baitfish. This guy was throwing a texas rigged senko type worm and bouncing it along the bottom. He was flat out killing the spotted bass. He must have caught 40 + fish in the couple of hours I was puttering around in there. Next time I'll be armed with some senko's texas rigged. They weren't big enough to be keepers but then who would want to eat something so close to a green carp anyways? LOL.

It was nice to get out on the water since it had been an eon since I had the boat out. And, the good part is I didn't have any fish to clean when I got home.

I might try to get back up that way to the hothole sometime the first week of January. I wanna give those senko's a shot near that spot and see what happens.....
