    Default Blues on Santee !

Talked to my vet yesterday who is a trophy catfisherman on the lakes. He claims over 26 catches of cats over 50 pounds. He's got pictures of most of them on his walls so i beleive him when he gives me a report. He says if you want to catch a trophy blue now is the time to go to lake marion. It has gotten cold enough for the shad to pod up and the blues are stacking up underneath them gorging on the lethargic baitfish. i saw this on my graph the other day so i can attest to the podding situation. He gave me some ideas and said it is not so much area just find birds and 25 foot dephths and use your LCD. As soon as Santa has come and gone i will surely go try 'em out. No drifting just find what you are looking for and anchor down. He didn't offer up bait selections and i didn't want to be too nosy especially as he was working on my dog and i hadn't got the bill yet. I would think herring or shad would do just fine as a hungry cat don't get too finicky.

Rocks Pond is a great place to start.find the pods of bait that is hugging the bottom, and ease a anchor down and get your bait down quickly,if no bites in 5 miniuts or so move and try again.fish some rods straight down, and some throw out, jus,t short cast is fine.some times the fish are on the flats and some times on the drops of the channel.Find the pattern and u will tear them up.We will be there tomorrow untill thusday. Im the Rounman on the radio give me a hollar.good luck

Heading down to santee this weekend for a couple days.Any reports thusfar?I been hearing that the lower lake is where to fish right now.I usually fish the upper lake or the canal.Anyone know any good places to stay down by the lower dam on Moultrie?I would like to limit my riding to a minimum seeing as how the air is so cold and a little wind can make your ride a miserable one. Thanks in advance for any reports.

You'd probably be better off just staying in a motel in Moncks Corner. It's close and caters to fishers. Lots of cheap diners there also. You could put in at Askins Landing or in Bonneau and be right on the spot in minutes.

Thanks for the tip Grease. I only plan to spend a day and a half down there and fish most of that anyway.A motel room for one night would set me right and I could spend my time fishing instead of riding.
