    Default 3/24 fISHING REPORT

First I went to Clark Hill and spend half a day then finished in Russell. Caught 33 crappie, 1 hybrid, and 3 stripers at the hill. Probably 10 of the crappie were throwbacks and the rest were solid keepers. The bite slowed and I couldnt get on many more so I loaded at lunch and headed to Russell. That was my plan this morning anyway. I spent about half the time checking out the lower end of the creek I fished and saw bait and fish galore but they just wouldnt hit ANYTHING I threw at 'em. I pulled jigs in 3 different coves and everything was on the graph that tells ya it was gonna be good (baiy AND fish) but for whatever reason the fish werent hungry. I finally made my way to the back of the creek and the birds and bait werent present but the fish still were and they were hungry. I fished until the bite slowed then I called it a day. I probably had a half dozen throwbacks and the rest of the 22 I caught were good sized keepers. The one thing that was obvious to me today was the size of the fish overall got better. Not so many tater chips and alot of keepers.

Anyway, total tally for the day was 56 crappie, 1 hybrid, 3 stripers and 1 yellow perch. I only kept a good mess of fish and threw fish back like the ones in the pic. All the fish in the pic went very close to a lb and better. (11"-13" fish) First pic is of this morning's sunrise.

Are you still tipping your jigs with minnows or are the Crappie aggresive enough, they aren't necessary???

Beagler, I bought a few small minnows and tipped half my jigs one morning and caught as many fish off plain jigs as I did the tipped jigs so I didnt fool with the minnows long. Other than that I havent carried a minnow with me any other time this whole spring.
