it was cold, bad cold when me and bowfin put the beast in the water this am down wateree. In the teens cold. after all the discussions we had about frozen lines, i had a double dose of it. the steering was locked down tighter than dicks hat band and yep, the motor wouldnt pee for us. it took a little over an hour of tender loving care to get the stuff thawed so we could go on the hunt. should have stayed home. no fish, other than a 2 lb blue. no perch, and no striper. we fished till 2pm and called it a day. seen thumper and butterbean and rhoadie and calvin. dont think they done anything to amount to anything either. it was a bad day to be sure. good thing i dint do no crowing yesterday as id be eatin crow today. striper is on the back burner now. time to jump on the crappie. im gettin sorta tired of fishing and not catching any fish. the bite is way different than it was last year. dont know what brought such a turn around but something has. anyway i have no further plans to do any more striper fishing, other than the upcoming rodeo, till i hear fish are being caught. its too expensive and time consuming to be prowling up and down the wateree hwy with empty coolers and high priced bait..... i got ticked off at the new depthfinder. dint seem to wanna act right, giving all kinds of sloppy info. after a lot of aggravation brian made some adjustments on it and it worked fine. i sure am glad, as i hated to make another run to bps with another defective toy..

i been to wateree too many times with few or no fish so i went to wylie this am.....
put my boat in at south point about 7 or so. got out in the main channel an drifted minners in about 25-30' right off the bottom..hit a school just north of catawba creek and it was on......one slab after another all morning.......left the lake bout 12,got home bout 1, and cleaned 42 fish by 4(no real fast at cleaning)
so i guess i caught bout 60 or so with a few chips and 3 cats.......
no temp gauge so i have no idea....guessing by how it felt on my hands i'd say it was purty dern cold.....
Good going 247,glad to hear somebody putting fish in the cooler!(i,m sure not!)
make room for me, im shiftin gears. im used to bringing home fish and here lately that aint been the case. gonna back to doing what i know best. what size weights was you using to keep your bait on the bottom? was you drifting with the current, wind or using the troller?

My trolling motor died a while back so i was just driftin with bass type rods with 12 pound line and a 1.5 oz sinker then tied about a 3 foot leader with 6 pound line below the weight
hope i explained this right kinda like a striper rig but smaller leader.....
driofted over a few humps that broke the leaded but kept the weight......tried a 12 pound leader and couldn't get a bit on that rod.
the rods were 7 footers(longest i have) med and med/heavy bass rods
drifting like that in cold water is a killer way to load the coolers. whats strange about it is you seldom see the fish on the depth finder, so i dont look for fish, just the channel and start drifting. as long as the water stays cold youll find em fairly easy. im puttin the beast back in crappie mode tomorrow and ill be chasing em to.
