After the winter wonderland on Saturday I finally made it to the water this morning with a buddy of mine for our first crappie fishing trip together....
I really wanted to go yesterday morning, but my jon boat had about 5 inches of snow in it and my Dad wasn't very fond about the idea of towing the bass boat to the lake on the icy roads...which I have to agree would have probably proven to be a bad idea in the long run.....
I had plans to hit the water about 8, but the way the fishing has been latelyI decided against it when I woke up and saw 20 degrees on the thermometer. We decided to hold off a couple hours. Heading under Harmon's bridge I saw a fella boat a slab and just knew it was going to be a good morning! We dropped lines at 9:45 and fished the horseshoe for two hours for two nice fish. Made a move back down towards the bridge and the same man was sitting there with a LIMIT!
He told me he caught most of his fish between daylight and 10...go figure... we hung around the area and ended up with 14 keepers. Had about 4 throwback crappie, a little bass, and a 16" striper too. Most of the fish were caught in 16-18 FOW fishing anywhere from 10-15 foot down. Caught some on red hook, black chartreuse hair jig, and pink and black hair jig all with minnows. Big fish was 1.5 lb with 5 total fish being a pound or better...
Things are starting to heat up I do believe! Check out the sign at the bait shop at the landing... I LIKE IT!
Hooking up every chance I get!
Great catch CB! Which lake where you on?
Nice catch and good report. Once this wind dies down some I gotta go. Just too many people starting to post pics of crappie and it's really giving me cabin fever. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I put in at 730 at dordan creek and the ramp was coverd in ice.I had that bad feeling hope I stop at the water as I slide back and I stopped when back wheels hit water.I started trolling in dordan creek for a hour and only picked up one nice crappie.I moved across the lake to ga side and hit a little creek went to back and marked a bunch of fish at 14 to 16 feet in 23 feet of water. We started trolling from the back out to main lake.I found that the hot jig color was blue and green and the green hornet jig body both curly tails and the white charile slider on orange head.We had 42 nice fat crappie by 2 pm and the wind was starting to blow straight up cove and the fish moved out of the cove.We head back across the lake to dordan creek and my wife said we caught some good fish lets head home.We had a fish fry for valentines supper with hush puppies, fries and some big crappie filets fried golden brown. That the best way to end a good fishing trip. The water was stained and muddy but the fish are biting when you are on them. Most of the fish had eggs that are just starting to show in the fish. The fish are in there usually places and are biting. The fish where biting and I can not wait to get on water again to do some trolling to see them long rods bend from those big old slabs.
