Hey fellas, what type of locations do ya'll look for when sinking beds? I have always based mine off of being able to locate them w/o a GPS. Now I have a GPS and a new area I've never placed any structure, just curious what everyone takes into consideration before dropping brush! Hopefully if the weather holds I might get a couple out over the New Year's holiday!
RR, I've had some pretty good luck with putting out some boo condos. I used my graph making sure I was in an area that didnt already have much (if any) brush in the area. Next I looked for the creek channels and dropped some along the edge of the channels where the depths started shallowing up above the 25' mark. I've placed a few in coves lacking ANY structure and did OK on those too. I placed them in 25-30' of water very close to steep dropping banks. (All of my condos stood between 10' & 15' tall.)
And I will also tell ya I placed a few in "fishy" looking places similar to the ones mentioned above that didnt pay off at all.Go figure...guess you'd just have to be a fish to get 'em all right.

I'm the same as Bowman. I like to place them in 25 to 30'. If the water drops they won't be found as quickly. The gps will help you go right to them![]()

Sounds like we all look for the same thing. I love using the bamboo and I like to have em about the same depth as ya'll. I was just curious if anybody was lookin at anything that I might have never thought off. I have also had more luck placing them in coves with a free flowing creek in the back, I don't know if the freshwater attracts more food or what but the fish seem to hang on those beds alot heavier. One draw back with free flowing water is that you get mud with heavy rain! Thanks for the info fellas.
Cove with live creeks are the place to put em. The minnows that use creeks will pull crappie into the cove but the best thing about a live creek is that they have warmer water than sitting water and will warm the back of the cove a little more the lake temp. You always find feeding crappie in those coves even in winter. The rain water will stain up the cove or even make it muddy but in the early spring the crappie are going to feed in the feeder creek coves. While the lakes are still cold even a run off creek will have crappie feeding at them but you won't have bait using run off creek, the crappie will be feeding on bugs, worms and anything else the rain water washes into the lake.
Got a little long, but do place some boo in the feeder creek coves.
