When I was 18 Yrs old I left Ohio and started making my way south.
The winter before I left, my uncled called me up and said that they were stocking a pay lake up there with trout, to come and we'd go over and have a good time.
That sat we went over and it was snowing and cold and not just a little ole snow like you get around here man it was coming down.
We baited up the rods with cheese and salmon eggs and threw them out and went and sit in the car watching our poles. At one time during the day I had to go get gas, That little 64 ford just sitting there running all day.
Everyonce in a while i'd get out and cast a spoon for awhile then run back to the car to get warm.
I ended up catching 1 rainbow trout on a Dare Devil spoon, and that joker ended up giving it to the preacher
Here I went through a tank of gas to stay warm, and that nut gave my 1 and only fish to the dad burn preacher. that was one fishing trip I'll never forget.![]()
Conserve Bass,,,,,,, Eat more Crappie
me and this guy was on wylie once, back in the early 70's brush hopping looking for crappie. we found this one brush pile that was covered up with fish. it was seriously overcast and cold. snow started falling thick and heavy and there was no wind. it got so bad you couldnt see very far and it was like we was all alone in a winter wonderland, with no sounds but the big snow flakes whispering all around us and we was catching crappie. a lot of crappie. it was really a memory maker. id run into him once in awhile over the years and hed always mention that trip and the snow falling.
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
We was working on a job up in the mountains and it started snowing hard. Everything had turned to ice that had any water in or around it. There was a pond we stopped at to try and fish and had to take rocks and break the ice to have a place to fish. We had rooster tails but could only throw them out 10' or so but each time we would catch a fish. We fished over an hour and the bite never stopped. We tried to fish that pond later and never caught a fish on rooster tails. I guess it's up to the fish when it's all said and done!!!!
