Well, I couldn't stand it and had to go ahead and kick off the trout season. Got to Jocassee at 8 am and started at the towers. Moved to JOR, then toxaway, then to Howard's creek. Caught 21 total with only two being legal size to keep(15+ inches). The two keepers went 15 1/2 and 17 inches. Not monsters but big enough for a good meal. All fish were caught on spoons. A nice day on the most beautiful lake in SC. :D
Good to see a report from Jocassee!!!Sounds as you had a good day on the lake and the fish was willing to bite. You are so right about it being the most beautiful lake in S.C., has it filled up or are they keeping it low?

Glad you made it out and got some of those good tasting trout for a meal. Were they Bows or Browns? I keep thinking I need to come fish that lake someday. Have you ever tried trolling small flatfish?
Happiness is a belt fed weapon.
Some people have heroes that wear capes.
MY heroes wear kevlar vests embossed with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor
Stump, the lake is at full pool and I haven't seen it that full in a long long time. All the waterfalls are roaring.
Carl, they were bows. I run something similar to flatfish. I run apex lures in sizes from 1 1/2 inches to 5 inches and they are killer. Other than that I use Sutton and Devil's Fork spoons. Visiting Jocassee is truly an experience, one that is worth making the trip.
I played ball with an ole boy from up there, his dad was the game warden back then and he took us crappie fishin one night in the DNR boat. We put a light down about 40 feet or so and in about 20 minutes we had hundreds of fish(crappie) down there! caught the limit in about a hour or so and then trout fished. Cought my first trout there which was 24 inches and had a blast. We were fishin out near the towers.
That water is so clear nightstalking is the way to fish. I tried to crappie fish it once but the fish knew we were coming 1/2 mile before you could get to them. Those water falls are worth the trip to see.

Thanks for report. Were you pullin' the spoon shallow or downrigged?
Great job! Love 'em Apex lures.

The lake is at the highest ive ever seen. Its up 30 feet plus from this summer.
Hey James, we were using downriggers and pulling spoons from 25 to 60 foot. I have never tried a nightstalk for crappie on Jocassee. That may be something I have to give a shot sometime soon.
