Default Minnow traps - ok to use?

Got some stuff from my brother. Among the items is a two piece round cage looking thing with small funnels at each end. Wanted hints on best places around wylie to put it, how much in advance, what to use for bait..etc.. or if I can use it at all?

    Still haven't found a minnow skinner :D

I have been told that dry dog food works. But I have never tried using a minnow trap myself.

a couple chunks of hotdog works well and you might even get a few crawdads

Put ya trap in a creek with a constant flow of water in it like way up Crowders or Allison Creek. Might stand a higher chance of catching something there than in the main lake itself. Someone more than likely would steal it if it was in the main lake area. When putting it out, make sure no one is around or watching you do it. Put the trap out at least 8 hrs in advance before going fishn.

Anybody ever crappie fished with those red headed creek chubs you catch in the creeks? I have access to some of those but never bothered using them.

They say chubs are a good bait for stripers. When fishn for creek chubs, daces, etc, for fun with #16 hooks in the creek near my house, I've had green carp come up and snatch em up like sharks to tarpon and tear up my little hooks. If green carp love em, i imagine crappie might like em too. Many a big slab was caught on a shiner meant for a green carp and many a hawg bass fell to that little bait shop minner meant for a slab. Ask Racoon about his double green carp hook ups

When I was in my teen's we fished for crappie with shiners only. They were 3 doz for a buck. We fished an out flow area from a cooling plant, a small crappie was about a 1 lber.
