Thread: Santee Trip

Went to Santee sunday night for a guided trip with my preacher. We hired
Captain Darryl's Guide Service, Darryl Smith. This was the worst fishing trip I have ever been on in my life. He was not friendly and was a real jerk. He did not respect my preacher he used bad language f.... this and f....that. He told some really big tails too. We knew he was not telling the truth. That was not good but his fishing was really bad. We caught some small fish early but from 10pm till 2 am we did not even get a bite. This might have been different if we would have changed locations or maybe put on some fresh bait. We fished 4 hours and pulled the same cut bait, ( for 4 hours). I feel like he did not try. Then when we got in the price of the trip changed. Went from 350.00 to 390.00 and he ate our food. What the heck! I should have refused to pay but with the preacher I did not want it to get ugly. I will never recommend him to anyone and I will NEVER step foot on his boat again!

There are some bad ones down there. I fish Santee quite often. Can recommend a couple that I have used or know. Fishfinder (Jim Glen) for Moultrie or Pete Pritchard on Marion are reliable and are good people. Not all guides are in it to show you a good time, it seems some are just there to take advantage of people. If the catfish aren't biting, Pete has put me on some slab crappie this time of year. We caught 25 or so one afternoon in about 2 hours over 2 lbs each.

Sorry to hear about the bad trip, but thanks for the warning.

He never gave us the chance to weight the fish. But we were close to the 100 lbs. By my cal. we were around 90 lbs give or take.
