Default Which Lakes are bowrider I/O style boat friendly?

I'm in Fort Mill. Mostly looking to show my son the fun of fishing. Tried wylie last weekend and will probably try again this weekend. Just wondering if there are other lakes close that my boat can safely go into for fishing.

I'm a new boater. It's a 17' bowrider I/O with a fish finder. Looking for crappie places or at least fun places to fish.

I'm not a new fisherman but I've always fished for fun so I don't know as much as you folks.

Any lake in the immediate area has ramps that will off load your boat.

I guess I was concerned where my type of boat would be at risk. As an example I'd consider below the wylie dam to probably be a bad idea due to the rocks and shallows, where a flat bottom aluminum boat may do better.

I don't remember the name of the lake but my brother took me to a lake a few years ago where the bottom was really wavy. We were striper fishing in his Vhull Aluminum boat. Not sure if my boat could go there or not. From memory it was down 21, maybe near Chester? Been a while.

Stay away from Stumpy pond and HWY 9 landing on the Catawba, otherwise have at it. Be careful in Fishing Creek as it can get shallow quickly around the Bethel boat landing area.

Wylie, Watteree, and Murray should be perfect for your boat.
    John 21:3
Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin

Jermo, take fishing this time of the year like a grain of salt. This isnt usually the best time of the year for filling a cooler full of crappie...although it could still happen. If I were you, beings as youre new on the waters youre boating around in, I'd spend time looking on my graph idling around looking for potentially good spots to fish once the water cools off. Better fishing is acoming.

Thank you, I'll do that. Sure is a lot to learn. Boat's been back to the shop twice for idle/start issues. I finally ended up fixing it myself (I'm a quick study and read a lot). Tech kept setting the idle at 1kRPM, book states 650-750RPM, at 1kRPM the gears "clunk" when you go into F or R. It does't take a genius to figure out that's not a good thing. I also had struggles getting it to idle smoothly. Book said my 2BBL carb "may have two idle mixture adjustments" which it does. The 2nd adjustment was WAY OFF. Now I have a reasonably easy starting, steady idle motor.
It's not rocket science . Anyway...the sonar is going to take a while for me to learn. I'm used to fixing it or listening to passive rather than reading an active screen. So far it's been interesting. I'm curious as to how the computer decides a return is a fish rather than trash. If I can get the fuel leak fixed the plan is to idle around the dam where the fish attractors are to see what we can find :D .

Jermo, check out the sticky at the top of the page--depth finder interpretations-- maybe it will help you learn what you are seeing on your depth finder.
