Temperature effects on fishing line

A test was conducted with 8 pound test fishing lines(s) to determine the effects of temperature on fishing line failure. Each test was conducted 3 times per temperature range. Each fishing line type was allowed 15 minutes within each temperature zone to allow for acclimatization. Machine force was constant until line failure occurred.

Braided Fishing Line ( 8 Pound Test )

6 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 18 pounds of pressure

40 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 15.3 pounds of pressure

80 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 21.6 pounds of pressure

Fluorocarbon ( 8 Pound Test )

6 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 7.9 pounds of pressure

40 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 9.8 pounds of pressure

80 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 13.7 pounds of pressure

Monofilament Fishing Line ( 8 Pound Test )

6 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 8.3 pounds of pressure

80 Degrees Fahrenheit - Line failure occurred at 8.1 pounds of pressure
