    Default Themometer

Do any of you guys use a water temp reader? Am wondering if one these things are worth the $$ to purchase. Have been looking for one with at least a 20' tag line to reach down to 15-19 ft below the surface. It might improve the catch somewhat. Just a though.

I have never used one but it would be interesting to see what the temps are at different depths. Where would you buy them at? Maybe a new toy to try and find a place in the boat to keep it.

What I use is an old swimming pool thermometer. Tie a piece of string to the thermometer and then put an egg sinker on the string. Drop it in the water as far as you want and let it sit for a minute or two. Pull it up and see what the temperature is. Inexpensive and accurate.

Jiggs, have you checked with William? Maybe he uses something when taking water samples.

I got one of those small indoor/outdoor digital ones.think it has 1 aaa battery in it. it has a ten foot cord down to the little reading or sending unit on the end.I put a 2 oz sinker on that end and hang it over the side. you get pretty accurate readings real quick.think i got it at Lowes bout 10.00 bucks.

I got a digital one with a 20 foot wire , I got a 1 oz sinker tied to the sensor. Instants reading as you drop it. I will look at it tomorrow and see who made it. I think I give 15 to 20 dollars for it, but that was 6 or 7 years ago. I had forgot I had it till I saw this post. Might get it out next fishing trip and see what it says. May take a few pictures of the readings at different depths.

That'll be great CB. I'm curious as to what the temps are at different depths to see if you can tell WHY the fish are holding at certain depths. I'll be looking for your post about it.
