Default Rango will be proud

Just bought my first ugly's. Got two 9 foot ugly's and one 6'6". Now, I won't be tying them to the end of a truck but I do plan on making these my most universal fishing rods.

Congrats on the new rods.
I have been wondering for a while when you go to buy a new pole how do you know what length to get? What does a longer pole do for you compared to a shorter pole?

cleon, i see you are gonna go far in your fishing career. and just think when its nearing its end, youll likely still have them ugly sticks unless you trade or sell em. . was your 9 footers crappie rods or spinning rods? i cant find the crappie rods anymore. i heard they have stopped making em.

Yur kiddin me. Yur sposed to fish with those spineless things?
I took all of em people have given me and use em to stake up my tomaters. I once packaged a bunch of em up and sent em to Berlkey and asked could they melt em down and make me some Lightning Rods outta em but they sent em back and said they can't make a rod outta such inferior material. They sent me a pink Barbie tackle box along with em and a note saying that was compliments of Berkley, Inc., to go along with my Ugly Stix.

A lot depends on your application. The longer the pole the futher you can cast. Bass fishing, length and acton depends on what time of lure. Worms crankbaits so forth and the cover you are fisging. Spider rigging longer the pole the futher you get from boat an less chance of spooking fish. Also in Spider rigging some will use different lenghts to cover more area.

Catching WP you can get a long stiff rod and tuna boat them in or use a ultralight and watch them take drag. Depends what you want to get out of it.

Crappie fishing I have one 10.5 foot pole I use for banks when I want to dabble around brush be back far enough not to spook fish. I have a 5.5 foot ultra lights for exact pinpoint fishing when casting. Like throwing into a coffee can at a bank that has a latdown. I need to hit a small area or just the right spot to drag over brush tops.

they make a great buggy whip if you got a buggy, horse or a wife that don't mind doing a little work in the garden!

i dont know if theres much of an advantage in lengths for the kind of fishing i do as long as the actions are the same for the job at hand. longer rods will give you more casting distance and will keep the bait further away from the boat in tightlining

GF, different rod lengths will also help you stagger your rods in the holders keeping your hooks seperated apart more using different length rods....ie: 5', then 6.5'. then 5', then 6.5', etc. I always use UL rods regardless of the lengths.
