Default Clarke Hill Striper Report 8/16

Me and Allen were on the water fishing our favorite spots at daybreak this morning. There was a slight wind blowing with somewhat overcast skies. The anticipation of the striper hunt was almost overwelming this past week and we were finally here. For the first hour we only had one bite, being a small guy about a lb. A few boats trolled by close enough to talk with and they werent getting much either. We stayed at it and eventually the biute picked up some. We caught small ones and larger ones, never really getting on fire like it had a few trips we'd been on previously, but still fun regardless. We fished this spot 'till about 11AM after the bite had quit. We tried another spot we'd been taliking about and after getting there we talked with a couple guys in a pontoon. They said the bite quit there about an hour ago. Fish schooled fairly well there this morning they said till the boats moving in and out of the area stopped 'em. Allen and I never seen any schooling this morning which was different than our other trips. Anyway, we finished the morning catching 14 stripers, most small with a few exciting moments. Allen had one good run and never turned the fish before he wrapped a limb and was gone. He hooked up with that fish on a Penn reel with the line clicker on and that reel screamed until the fish made the trees. Another boat with a family aboard we had talked to earlier was pretty close by when I had a linerunner take a bait but he didnt quite reach the trees so we got that one. I guess he thought we were some kinda fools throwing that fish back. Allen's biggest fish boated today was 8 lbs. 3 oz. and mine was 12 lbs. 4 oz. Here's a couple pics of those fish...

That some good looking fish gabowmen, you and Allen are having some good trips to the hill, in your pic you sure can tell how low the lake is. How bad is the ramp now? I hope we get some rain from the storm that a blowing around down at Cuba. Weather man said it could stall and give us a few days of rain, that is what we need to help the lakes and rivers out.
Congrats on your and Allen's catch-nice job you are doing learning the striper's

Hadnt tried the boards yet but fish would hit 'em. People are pulling boards. We're catching fish off free lines while trolling as well as down lines right off the bottom. If a "fall frenzy" gets much better than it is now (and has been for the past month) I wont be able to afford the bait!?!

There's a couple places right near the ramp that leaves their bait sheds open 24/7 and you dip and pay on the honor system. They have cameras inside the sheds and they can see who you are and how many youre dipping. Besides, I did say "honor system" and these guys aint getting rich off their bait so I hope people arent taking advantage of them. Its nice being able to get bait that early and that close to the landing. I just hope a few greedy people dont ruin it like they do most other things.
