    Default 998 down imaging

Need to say at the start i am not very good with this unit. My problem is down imaging is washed out, my side imaging is good but when i go to di it is washed out. I have had this unit about 3 years and all was good until about 3 months ago. As you can guess i don't get a lot of use, my fault. I did loose a rod over board and would like to look for it with di. The water is about 8ft should be able to find if the di worked. Any input on what to check.

I would put in contour mode and set range real low... haven't tried this, but would be better than using DI on a 998.... couldn't be any worse. Might be better off borrowing an underwater camera. Good luck!

I have never had any issues like that with my 999. Have you added another unit; crosstalk?

If all else fails, reset defaults in case something got messed up in the settings or corrupted. With that model the DI should be working fine if the SI is fine since the DI is derived from the SI beams via software......also, the other thing would be ...what has changed?

I've lost a couple rods in the past as well, mainly when kayaking (beginner and didn't tether like I do now).

Your best bet would have been to mark the spot with GPS and come back in the summer to swim down and feel (or as/hire your son or grandson to do it lol). Good luck with your rod, but I very seriously doubt you'll be able to pick it up on DI or SI (but I could be wrong). I have a 999 (console) & 899 (bow) and love these units. Once I learned how to use them it was game on!
