I have also wondered the same thing seems like the 1199 was made a lot sturdier than the Helix models from just looking at pictures. I would think the 1199 would be easier to take out and put back in the boat at the end of the day also. I have read where the Helix screen is much clearer than the 1199 also. This is a great question. I hope several will comment on this as I don't understand why or how Humminbird can now sell the Helix 10 for less than half of the price that the 1199 sold for. Just wondering if the older legion models will be working when the helix's has bit the dust.

1199 is square-ish screen - HELIX is rectangular wide format ...
HELIX has AutoChart Live ...
HELIX has brighter nit screen ...
HELIX will support updates longer ...
(HELIX 12 G1 offers CHIRP 2d) ...

I've owned an 1199, while it was nice the Helix 12's (very comparable to the 10's except weight/size) are very nice and glad I switched over.
I have an 1199HD on my console and Helix 10DI G1 on the T-M. I use them totally differently but will be replacing the 1199HD soon with a Helix 12. The screen brightness PLUS being able to run the latest/greatest toys on the Helix is why I'll switch.
