Are the helix gen 1 transducer and the 998 hd the same. If not is the helix transducer that much better

I guess I won't reply to the question since you maybe want Rickie or another experienced user to reiterate what I have already told you via PM.

HELIX 9 SI (G1) comes stock with the compact SI xducer (which can be upgraded to the HDSI thru the HB xducer exchange program) ...

HELIX 10 and 12 SI (G1) comes stock with the same HDSI xducer supplied with the 998 ...

Sorry if I was rude , I asked that question tuesday , and figured you were busy. I should have waited another day or two for you to reply. I was just wanting answers to my question.

    Thumbs up

I'm sorry if my answer wasn't clear or if you didn't get the reply to your PM the following morning to come thru on your end - this is the reply I sent to you in response to your PM ~ sent Yesterday, 05:42 AM:

This could have been confusing, because the older "Core" series HB units such as the 997/998/999 8" SI screens (898/899 7" SI) (and the 1197/1198/1199 10" SI displays) all use the HDSI transducer aka the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T (or TM version) XTM 9 HDSI 180 T Hi Def XDCR - which is also used on the Gen 1 Helix SI units, supplied with the 10's & 12's an upgrade option for the 7 and 9's as well ( though the 7 only can use 455kHz).

Sometimes I may rush too quickly thru answering a question because I get a LOT of them - and between going fishing occasionally, working a full time job and trying to help folks with their electronics to get the most from them - I sometimes miss getting my point across well! YES - I do get busy at times....

This is a 3 element transducer that uses the SI imaging pulses to blend into the DI view by using the overlapping sonar data from each L & R channel.

The G2N (Mega SI) units use a 4 element transducer, that utilizes a true down facing ceramic peizo element that displays it's own true echoes in addition to a 2D element and right and left SI beams.

The 998 is a fine machine I loved mine when I owned it, as Rickie & Kosmo will readily attest to it's a capable machine.

Below is an image of what the inside "guts" with the 3 separate elements in an X-ray....

What you are gaining by going to the Gen1 Helix is the ability to create on the fly mapping via AutoChart Live(ACL), a faster processor and a higher resolution display which will give you the best images attainable without going to a G2N unit as the G1 Helix 12 SI only Chirps the 2D, not the SI/DI those are fixed at either 455 or 800 kHz and the SI & DI use the same frequency and cannot be set independently...

The G2N's can Chirp the 2D, SI and DI all using a different frequency spectrum for each - the 2D is 75-95kHZ/175-225 kHz, the DI can be 420-520kHz, 790-850kHz or the Mega band which is 1125 kHz-1300kHz ( or 1.125 to 1.300Mhz) and the SI can cover the same bands BUT can be independently adjusted from each other in nearly any combination.

Hopefully that was a good, yet thorough explanation and helps you to understand the capabilities of the machines better.
I actually wanted to get a Helix 10 Mega SI - but they were on back order so long when they were released I finally said the heck with it and got the Helix 12 Mega.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten the 10 Mega (a faster processor YET!) over the 12 Gen 1 - but like you, you have to consider how much you'll play with settings and best bang for your buck.

If I sell my Helix 12 DI Gen1, I am going to put a Helix 10 Mega DI in it's place for more display and Chirp options on the bow.

If you ever have questions, feel free to PM me or email me.

My email is my user name here @T gmailDOTcom and I'll try to help.

I hope there's no hard feelings and whatever choice you make, you're going to like all the new colors, mapping and technology options the 998 just doesn't have.

If I missed anything, Rickie - cuss me out!!

    HTH!!!!
    Best~

    HELIX G2 in 5" and 7" cannot Ethernet ...

    HELIX G2N in 7", 9", 10", and 12" can Ethernet ...

HELIX G2N can share waypoints, accessories, and Sonar (with CHIRP turned off) with the 1198 ...(MEGA frequency cannot be shared to 1198) ...
