    Default Lowrance Transducer Type

I have a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 touch that I have mounted on the front of my boat where I fish from, but the transducers are mounted on the transom so what I see is always 12/14 feet behind me. I want to move the transducer to the trolling motor and assume I will need a different type of ducer specific for a trolling motor set up. I understand I will lose side imaging and down imaging, but don't care as long as I can actually see 2d where I am fishing and not behind me. I only fish one lake and hardly ever use side scan anyway.

What specific transducer do I need for this change?

    Thanks. Paul

The HDI skimmer transducer with DI and sonar will work great. In my opinion, SI is not needed on the trolling motor. Lowrance makes a trolling motor mount for pretty cheap.

You can leave the SS transducer on the back and move the 2D transducer to the TM. You already have two transducers mounted if you have both SS and standard sonar. The transducer can be mounted on your TM with a stainless hose clamp.

it says this is for the Elite model. You say it will work with an HDS Gen2?

hmmm, so if i was looking at side scan/downscan it would be showing what was at the transom transducer and if i was watching 2d it would be showing what is under the trolling motor?

bc the side scan transducer is a different plug than the 2d sonar transducer.

The HDI skimmer transducer is the way to go, if you get a new transducer. It give awesome 2d and down imaging shots. I have used it on a gen 2 touch 9 for the last couple years and been very happy. I had the lowrance plastic transducer shield the first year. While moving the transducer to a new trolling motor I noticed the lowrance cover was cracked where the hose clamp passed through. I ordered the Transducer shield and save version and like it better. More money though.
