First off, Congrats on the catch. What part of La were you fishing?
I would rather fish for a few big ones than a bunch of little ones.

we launched out of Cocodrie,fished the bayou,the fish shown were the results of 3 days hard fishin,cold front killed us with high winds.All the drum ,3 one day and 2 one day,were caught within 30 minutes fishing an 8 foot hole in a creek or what ever they call them down there.Had 40# mono on a GTI 331 on a 8 foot ugly stick,and yea ,it was like fighting a freight train...biggest was 39#,smallest was 25#,by my lcr scales..There were 3 of us in the my boat,We stayed with great friends I have down there in Chauvin,treated me and the wife like royalty,Rusty is a boat captain with one of the oil companys and fishes the bayou every chance he gets when off work,and also an award winning chef with receipes published in the Lousiania Gourmet Magazine,Man can he cook,He made us the winning receipe (Capt,Habert stuffed flounder)and boulettes,(crab & crawfish like a big hushpuppy)addictive,,also had a crawfish/crab boil ,my wife ate for two hours,,lol,,,All in all it was a very enjoyable trip...ss
The guy in the photo is Rusty's Uncle Terry,his wife Lisa and two girls ,live next door ,Mom lives beside them ,aunts and uncles on both sides of them,the two block area was all kin folks ,They just step out the front door and holler instead of useing a phone..lol,,cool ,,,Beautiful colorfull ,down to earth folks,,..they adopted me and Carolyn...ss
Good looking catch there. It sure must have been fun.
I hear they been catching some real nice reds at Burns Point.
Not this week end but maybe next I will get a chance to catch a few.

That is an alligator gar,Rusty kept it ,said it was good table fare,The drum were good eating,notice I said WERE,all of them have been consumed,the big ones have a parasite worm in them but you can cut it out like I did,no affect on the meat at all,,they say 1 out of 3 have the worm,,We caught them on half a blue crab..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ss
