Some Flounder Jigs

My brother in law wanted some flounder jigs for next weekend in New Jersey.So off to tying I went.These are 3/4 oz. with a 3/0 Eagle Claw 635.Bucktail of course.These are much easier to tye after doing a bunch of 1/64 oz ones,lol.Think they will catch?They also have a barb behind the collar that you can put a Berkley Gulp Grub on.He took me last year and we caught 100's of them.Only 35 keepers over 18 inches though.Hot Pink was the color.I had to buy a couple of bucktails while there,no more.

Hot Pink Head,white bucktail and a pink 4" grub did the trick last year.

Never tried jigs for Flounder, only Mud Minnows. How do you fish the jigs?

The grey and the red were the best producers of keeper flounder this year.We use them in the bay while drifting.Using 10 pound test line.Pretty much just dragging them on the side of the boat.Try it you'll like it.Seems on calm days the 3/4 oz. worked good.If there is a little wind a 1 oz. would be best.

Do you try to find an area that the tide does not move so fast in to drift your boat or just drift at high & low tides when the water has slowed down? The area I normally fish is @ the mouth of a inlet or Jetty & the water can really scream in and out of there. There are some creeks near by that drifting may work better for, but have never tried fishing them. Thanks for the help, I will have to give it a try next Spring......

The big bay where we fish is'nt near the inlet.It's pretty big.We rent a 14 foot boat with a 9 horse Yamaha and never have any problems getting around.

The flounder in the Northeast (NY, NJ) and the flounder in the Gulf are different species. Same group (i.e. genus) but different species. In fact, in the Gulf there are at least two different species of flounder that I know of - the Gulf flounder and the Southern flounder.

We catch em here on Delmarva good with double rigged jigheads with gulp swimming mullet pearl and chart. 4"
