A buddy of mine is Headed to Bolouxi Ms to Keesler for a TDY anyone have any info on some good fishin will be there for about 6 weeks. Crappie fishing or saltwater thinking of bringing the boat. Or is there plenty of trout and redfishin available from local jetties. By looking on a map it doesn't seem like there is very much in the way of fresh water near by. Thanks aheaded of time

Don't know about that area but the jetties are usually a good bet, especially for big bull reds!

THanks shadow, what would be the best way to catch some big bull reds or trout from a jettie? what about shrimp is there a possibility at netting any shrimp there? He has never been nor have I for that matter and wouldn't have a clue on how to catch one. If i were going to do it I would probally try and catch some live shrimp and fish with them live or maybe some manhayden minnows if they are around, would this work? What about artificial baits? Thanks
Nathan

I really do NOT know about that area, all I can tell you is what works around the area I fish. For big bull reds, I would catch some big mullets and cut them up and use the cut bait. For trout you can use live shrimp but they are usually expensive to buy and hard to keep alive, a good alternative is to catch the smaller (finger size) mullet and fish them under a popping cork. The popping cork will keep you from losing MORE baits if you are fishing the jetties, YOU WILL LOSE SOME! As for artificials, I would stick to either cocahoes or sand eels. If you are looking for that bull red, the best bet would be the cut mullet unless the locals use something there that works better. Half crabs work great on big bull reds too! Just break the back (shell) off and break in half, if it is a big crab, or use whole for small crabs.
Good luck or as sneakypete would say BON CHANCE!

try the Tchoutacabouffa River where it meets the bay (Biloxi). Bass tackle and tatics memtioned above are both effective. Casino lights at night pull in the bait fish and the food chain follows. Hope this helps

A friend and I were down there in Sept. 09 and fished from the piers and levies for a couple days.We mostly caught small ocean cats and some other 5-6 inch fish.
Anyway your friend is very lucky. The AF base has a 50 ft boat that takes groups and GI's out in the gulf. I think the name of the boat is Dolphin. We were to go on it with his sister and a group that came down from Barksdale AFB but bad weather killed that. I guess they play it safe in bad weather. One of the guys said the GI's only have to pay a small fee like $25.00 ? (bad memory) for a days fishing. I am sure if you would check Kisstler AFB website you could find info on the boat.
