On Tuesday Morning I set up on the line in the first 40` of water and trolled East all the way to 80` before I had the first hit. We took a King on a Glow Draggin` flie behind a white dodger, then the lighted "J Plug" brought another to the boat. By now the darkness was gone and I started switching over to the morning program. I put dodgers and flies on my boom `riggers and spoons on my corners. A white flie behind a white hotspot down 45` took at least a half dozen hits and as many fish before a King mangled the flie, I set up another leader to the exact same length and as I`ve learned in the past after altering a bait, it didn`t take another hit. I found a spot and stayed on it. The `riggers were working best and when the dipseys did get hit we had both of them go at once. The `riggers were down 45`-60` and the fireline dipseys back 150` on a #3 setting. I was changing baits throughout the morning and the dodger flie combo performed better for me. We came in with our 4 man limit, all Kings, and only had a couple of dinks .
For the afternoon trip I set up a few miles south in 80` and ventured out to 110`. It was a little choppy and the fish weren`t to eager to strike. the best rod was a fireline Chrome dodger/ clown flie back 150` on a # 3 setting. I put a green "Dee`s flasher" ahead of a stinger green dolphin and within 5 minutes it landed a 14 # King. I then put a purple one ahead of a purple "Dr. Death" J-Plug, and a white one ahead of a "Dog Bone" spoon. Out of the 7 fish we landed 3 came on the Dee`s. I was setting them up with the same color on the flasher and on the bait.
On Wednesday morning the winds were blowing pretty strong out of the Southeast, unfortunately you can`t tell the conditions when you leave in the dark. I had my wipers on and it was a little bumpy with good 3`-5` waves with an occasional 6` roller to keep you on your toes. I found a pocket of fish in 90` and stayed on them landing 10 Kings (one dink) and a brown before they figured they had enough fish and we were back at the dock by 8:30. I ran the same baits as I did the day before, only this was the first trip the Lighted J-Plug didn`t take a hit. I looked at the "Buoy" reading and Guess what? The worst conditions for wind and waves occurred when we were out .
