Default North Point July 2nd - 4th

On Sunday morning we left the dock just before 7 and fished between 50` and 70` just North of the line to 42* 33 N. Despite the storms down South, the weather cooperated and we only had a little drizzle during the trip. We went 8 for 12 boating 7 Kings and a coho.

All the Kings took spoons and the coho on a banana rig down 40` on a `rigger. The best spoons were again the magnum "Smurf" and "Green Dolphin". On either a full core of lead or stretched 25` back off the ball. The dipseys took two pokes, but the fish managed to shake free.

For the afternoon it was back to 42* 33 N setting up in 70`, we had 3 hits on the Smurf, landing 2 decent kings, before I had 3 rods down. This time we managed to land a few off the dipseys, a Lil` boy blue behind smoke on a # 1 wire back 120`seemed to be the preferred bait.

This was until the biggest King ( looked to be in the mid teens) took it and broke off on a `rigger cable. We ended up 9 for 12 with 8 Kings and a coho.

On Monday morning I went back out to the 50` range and set up just North of the line, unfortunately the kings were no longer there. Tons of bait on the screen but no marks, I took it as shallow as 40` and out to 90` coming in 3 for 8 with a coho, Bo, and a Laker. The dipseys took all but one of the hits and that one took the Bo on the lead with a "Bumble Bee spoon". The dipseys had dodger fly combinations consisting of Lil boy blue / smoke, banana rig, and aqua behind white plastic. The only dipsey/ spoon combo, with a magnum "Smurf" was slammed and bit off. They were back 80`-90` on a # 1 wire and out 120`-150` on a # 3 super line.

For the one 0`clock trip I fished Illinois as I heard the boats that went out at noon had action. I took a hit on the 3rd. rod down, a Magnum "Blue Dolphin" 40` on a `rigger in 90` just south of the line. This fish made it to about 30` of the boat when it shook off. That was it except for a short hit on a dipsey for the next 2 hours. Then I found some active fish, within 45 minutes we landed 2 10# Kings a 6# coho and 3 smaller kings coming in 6 for 8. The stud rod was the copper (finally) with a magnum "Bumble Bee" spoon, that accounted for 3 of the kings. The lead took one with the Stinger Kevorkian.

On Tuesday morning it was another tough day. Started just over the line in 50`.The first rod to go was a #1 wire dipsey 120 with a Lil` boy blue behind smoke out on the counter in 90`. The King came in quick and wasn`t ready for the net as it reached the back of the boat. After it`s first dive under the stern, it ran to the opposite side breaking off on a `rigger. Then we had a few more pokes all of which came on the other #1 wire dipsey 100` on the counter with a Magnum caramel dolphin a.k.a."Sister Sludge". Most of these were lost during the hand off of the rod from one person to another .The 6 # coho that did find the cooler took an Aqua flie behind white plastic "Hot Spot" flasher 120` out on a # 3 fire line dipsey.
I heard of boats having as many as 8 and 11 fish, one went one for one and another didn`t do quite as well. I guess I was somewhere near the middle.

There was a strong current and at times we were running 3.0-3.1 kts. on the GPS, some guys had action at that speed others said their weights were hanging straight down moving at 1.9 to get any action. This was while we were traveling in the same direction, you try to figure that one out, I can`t .
