Took off at 6 in the fog, with a group that won a trip thru the Palatine Park District`s fishing derby that they have every September (make a note to your calender ) I did a slow run thru 15` about a mile South of the harbor looking for marks, nada . I Turned East and set-up in 35`. We had decent action as I was setting lines prior to reaching 50`. The Blue Liz Chedder on a 40` dipsey was once again worth it`s weight in gold :D , taking 4 of 5 hits. I turned back as we hit 70` and took a few more on the boards.
There was too much boat traffic, and I figured they didn`t have radar, as I kept doing all the maneuvering to avoid incident . This was confirmed when the fog lifted and I saw quite a few small deep "V" style boats. I was now out in 120` and we took a few more hits, a King took the "Hey baby" down `70, and the dipseys continued to do their job. It slowed for us so I brought it back into the shallower water, the sun seemed to contribute to the lack of action . Once again various flies on the boards, and the only other spoon bite was a Silver Streak mongoose down 12`, the lead never took a hit . The `rigger bite for me was slow, with the spoons and one fish on a Lil` boy blue behind a smoke dodger down 35`taking all the action.
Other guys had good spoon action and not much for dipseys and boards, I guess it`s the dynamics of your own spread that`ll determine what`s working.
I stayed between 35` and 120` off the Nuke. We ended up with our 4 man limit consisting of 18 coho and 2 Kings.
The fish again were pretty much scattered, some boats were out to 200`, catching a mixed bag.
Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we`re supposed to be in store for, and have a safe holiday weekend
