My favorite bait is cut bait. Cut up a small perch and use it as bait. In some states I guess its illegal to cut fish up for bait, But, yet they allow you to use live bait. Here in Idaho we can't use live bait but, we can use cut bait if legally caught and in your posession. I use a size six hook tiped with cut bait and do very well. Check your regulations before you try this method, it may be illegal in your state. Oh put your bell sinker on the bottom and your hook or hooks above. Good luck.

For yellow perch I like yellow or chartreuse jigs. I like marabou...I think the perch can mouth them a little easier than they can the bulkier plastics.

I use a #2 Mepps spinner or a Fat Free Fry citrus colored crankbait when I fish for them in the warm months. Medium minnows when the water is real cold in Feb.

My brother in law catches the heck out of them with these baits,I tie his jigs for him,is a 1/64 round head with a size 8 sickle with grey, pink,or black kiptail and a red thread body, the other is just the same jighead, barbed with a cheap rubber solid body,1 inch chartuse. This is for through the ice.

I catch them with night crawlers. I eat perch all winter and even give some away.

I like a shad dart with a minnow or various crappie type plastics adding a minnow seems to really help more with the perch then with the crappie.
