to me, yellow perch and crappie taste so much alike, that if I mix the fillets up before cooking, I can't tell them apart. It's not a big surprise since both have the same diet, and hang out in many of the same haunts.

Perch or crappie? give me a mixed batch of the two and I've got the best tasting fish-fry around!

We unfortunately have a 30 fish limit on all panfish here in South Carolina and the white perch is considered a panfish. I wish there was no limit because we have had many 100 plus days on really nice fish in the 1lb range. I love em!

the best fish on the table is the one thats on the table.

white perch is pretty much like that of a white bass, decent table fair but nothing like that of a yellow perch, walleye or crappie and good ole blue gills/sun fish. wished we could get some size to them in the south like in northern states.

the pictures posted was a very good examples of "white perch" and " yellow perch".

    Default white vs yellow perch

seems like nobody has a good answer, but there is a huge difference. I fish in Lake Erie in Ohio and go for yellow perch, which is a delicacy. White perch are not even in the perch family. They are an invasive junk fish. They look more like a white bass than a yellow perch. The only similarity is their dorsal fin. When I catch one, I kill it.

    Default Blue pike

It would be really good if those blue pike could somehow be re-introduced into lake Erie, obviously there would need to be harvest restraints...but the chance to land one ...nice!:D
