I kind of wish they were not so good to eat. When I get ready to fillet them, I must say a dozen times or so "what a pretty fish" People think they are always easy to catch, but they will test your angling skills. As yesterday, I never expected the fish to be where they were. The color was not "the secret color" Chaunc or Zeke turned me on to, and I was using a much heavier jig head than normal, as my buddy caught the first one on a heavy head. At times, they are predictable. Other days, I have trouble putting any in the boat. Just a great fish. I used to love the Walleye fishing, but the Crappie is becoming my favorite fish to fish for. They are a pretty fish. Did I say that again:D

The action was pretty good on Sunday as well with 33 keepers landed between the 2 of us and quite a few more thrown back to gain experience. Red and white tube jig or Steeler color tube jig with nibble were the prime attractors. The crappie bit in spurts with almost all fish caught during 2 heavy biting periods. The spawn is starting. Most females had eggs intact, but one decided to let some loose on my jeans. Coconut panko fried crappie are on tonight's menu.

Just thought i'd update this post. The crappies are starting to school up real good. I've got over a hundred in the boat in the last three trips out with family and friends. Tuesday i took my older brother Dan and his friend Larry out for a few hours and did pretty good. This was their first time without using live bait under slide bobbers.
Took a while for them to get the hang and feel for jig fishing but they managed before the day was over to do pretty well. Larry even caught a keeper northern that i was glad to fillet for him. Here's a couple pics.

Took T O out the next day and did well also. Left the camera at home but took a picture of what i kept.

Today i took my younger brother Rich out. If you fish shenango i'm sure you've seen him there on the weekend. He's got in-laws coming and wanted to catch enough for a big fishfry. We caught crappies and gills non stop for 2 hours. He even caught a nice bass and had a pike bite his line at the boat.
I'd say i had a very enjoyable week on the water. Here's Rich with our catch for the day.

And his bass

I guess you'd call that a pile of fish. I was going to go up today, but dad did not feel up to it. Now I wish I'd gone. Nice Catch
