    Default Shenango

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and wanted to share some info on my trip to shenango yesterday. The surface temp was 63 degrees and it was very windy. We managed to catch 31 slabs in 4 ft of water. 5 of which were 14+ inches. It took us all morning to find them, but when we did is was worth the wait. Tight lines to all.

When it comes to shenango, 5 14+ inch fish, in one day, is very unusual. I've been fishing this lake a long time, with a lot of friends, and never seen a one day catch with that many big ones. We catch a lot of fat 12"s and long 13's, but 14's just arent that common.

Great catch Slabs!! You found some granddaddys. We get lots of 11s/12s there and the occassional 13. You did good to find 14s. I have only seen a few of those, but they are there. The water temps have us ready to give it a try for a drive up from Aliquippa next week if the weather offers a window. They should be on the minnow bite. Smitty, those 18"ers are in Ambridge Reservoir down our way. Trouble is only a few politically connected people are allowed to fish there---otherwise $500 fine. Though, it seems my dad and I are the only 2 people not fishing there at times. Fish die of old age in that place.

SlabsofSteel, Welcome to crappie.com and the Pa board. I heard a couple weeks ago, that a guy caught an 18+ at Shenango in deeper water.

Sleep well then, my friend. And just how long have you been taking surveys on this lake? I didn't say they arent in there. Just that it's rare to get so many at one time. If you fished this lake, you'd know that the fish that size dont school up together often. Could happen and probably did, but i'm just saying it's rare. And welcome to crappie.com. Feel free to post pictures of your catch. We love to see those pics here.
