Talking First outing of the year

Guys, my friend and I were out for the first time this season on Lake Arthur yesterday . We foud the crappie in about 4 to 5 feet around stick-ups . They ranged from 7 to 11 inches and most were males. Total we kept about two dozen and threw back at least twice that number . It was a beautiful day and if you had a bucket of minnies you could do as well as we did . Man, has the cost of bait risen .We also got a few gills and several smallies on jigs tipped with bait .I'd like to hear how others are doing on the other lakes .

Me and my Dad went out yesterday on Blue Marsh and caught 98,we had a couple that went 14 inches and were really fat, alot of the others were 9 inches and bigger. We caught them in depths ranging from 5 ft to about 15ft and we used 1.5 inch tubes filled with Crappie Nibbles(red /chart,lime/chart seemed to be the hottest)and Fathead Minnows Kentucky rigged. We had the lake almost all to ourselves which was very surprising with the weather as nice as it was.

We went back out to Blue Marsh Sunday and caught 87 more,a nice mix of white and black Crappie. The whites on the average were much bigger than the blacks with the biggest white being 13 1/2 and the biggest black at 10 1/2,both types on the average were fat and healthy though. They seemed to be a little deeper than they were on Friday and they wanted the minnows more than the tubes.Fishing so far this spring has been good around here.

Caught them in both,in either case they were on or close to wood that had deeper water nearby.

Went out yesterday to Blue Marsh for a shorter time and caught 48,including my nicest of the year at 15 inches and very fat(wish I had a scale).Caught them on Fatheads, pink and white tubes, and caught some on Panfish Assassins in a gray and black color.

Got out yesterday to Blue Marsh,we got 65 in 4 1/2 hours. The wind was really blowing much harder than I thought it was making the boat positioning/fishing tough, but the bite was good.Almost all were caught on Fathead minnows and there were a bunch of nice ones ranging from 11 to 14 inches.I was surprised to see some other Crappie fisherman out yesterday I didn't get to talk to them to see how they were doing, but hopefully they had as good a time as we did.

That's a slow day? 65 fish in 4 hours...... okay I'll take a slow day like that anytime.

The spring Crappie fishing has been fantastic for us in the central part of the state so far this year, maybe I'm getting spoiled....I'm sure the dog days of summer will fix that right up soon enough.
