Default How's Fishing @ Shenango

Thinking of driving to Shenango to fish Monday, July 2 -- 70 miles one way so I would like to know how the fishing is -- don't really need to know "where" -- just how the fishing is and whether it will be worth the trip--have fished it many times so I know where to go if the fish arfe biting -- any information would be helpful -- thank you in advance.

Default fishman - thank you

Stump Jumper,

Thank you very much -- appreciate the information -- two friends and my self should be on the lake early on Monday -- I will post how we do -- we were at Lake Arthur on Friday -- not good -- caught approximately 20 fish -- only 5 keepers. Before that we were at Wilhelm -- caught a few but the wind increased to 20 + mph and that was the end of our fishing -- thanks again for your input --

Default fishman - Monday, July 2 Report from Shenango

Folks,

First of all thanks to all who replied to my information post. Two of my friends and I fished Shenango today (July 2) - Put boat in around 7 a.m. and fished until around 2:30 -- very poor fishing -- we had 2 keepers by 11 - we let them go. We fished shallow, we fished deep - we drifted, we anchored -- not much luck. We fished below the campground launch -- we fished above the campground launch.

I don't consider the three of us your average fishermen -- we fish 2 or 3 days a week from April til the snow shows up -- we have fished Shenango for over 15 + years and this has been the worst year so far -- we have always done well here -- just can't figure out what the problem is--we did fairly well in eary May but went downhill from there -- In the past we have fished here July and August with lots of success -- if anyone has any suggestions -- they would be greately appreciated.

The three of us plan to try Pymatuming next week -- haven't been there for a while but will let you all know how we do.

I'm going up today to try for crappies. I'll let you know what works for me as i plan to try a lot of diffrent techniques and areas. Gonna see if the spoons can bring em home. Crappieday sent me some new ones to try. They have bigger sickle hooks on them.

Default Moraine Info

My neighbor and I fished Moraine last week. The fish we caught were from 9 - 12 feet -- we only caught a few but they were nice fish. Couldn't find anyplace where you could pick up a number of fish. We would fish on a brush pile - pickup one fish and that was about it -- We were using mostly small minnows and jigs - most of the fish were caught on just a minnow and small hook.

Wish I had more to share -- good luck!!

Hello fishman, Thanks for the response. I am a new member and just learning to use this system of posting questions and replies. Were you fishing north, south or middle of the lake to find 9-12 fow. I have been trying to identify brushpiles using my depthfinder but am having trouble identifying them. not sure if i have the depthfinder set up right. reading instruction booklet again. Good luck fishing. Hope to talk to you again. Stay in touch.
