Thumbs up Bald Eagle/Sayer Lake

Anyone have any info on Sayer Lake? Are the crappie biting yet. How is the water level?

It looks like I may be transfered to a new plant in the Washingtonville area. I am also intersested in Bald Eagle. Has it traditionaly been a good crappie lake? Are there other good lakes in the Williamsport area that produce decent crappie numbers?

If you're going to be living in Washingtonville, you'll be less than 5 miles from PP&L's Montour Preserve. Lake Chillisquaque is an excellent lake that has been under panfish regulations for several years. It's not necessarily crawling with crappie, but it's got some excellent size slabs. There's also some real good walleye and northern fishing there. Right now, it's closed to boating until after the spring migration in mid-May.

As for Sayers Lake (Bald Eagle), it usually has an excellent black crappie population, although it's been subject to some large die-offs at times. Try fishing it before Memorial Day, because once the water skiers get going, they beat the lake into a froth.

Send me a personal note if you want to hear of a few more good lakes around the area. Welcome to central PA.

i pretty much fish sayers all summer, nothing else reall y, and it puts consistent numbers in the boat most trips, not always quantity, but more often than not, you can bring in 9" or better, 9" is the min. under the enhancement regulations. black moshannon has good crappie fishing too. canoe is your best bet on black moshannon.

Default Try again this weekend

No luck last Sat. - we took a lot of time working out some kinks w/the boat and the weather was just too raw to stay out for very long. We're gonna try again this Sat. Sounds like great weather and the lake seems to be pretty close to full. By the way, a co-worker of mine witnessed some impressive action at the lake at Montour Preserve (near Danville). A couple guys wading were taking some nice 12-13 inch slabs along the shore earlier this week. I live pretty close to this lake but have never fished it - I guess it's time to give it a try.

Fished Sayer from the penisula by the Howard boat launch from the bank. Started at 9:30 am and fished till 3:30 pm. Caught a lot of nice perch and then hit crappies every once and a while (all on minnows). Crappies where few and far between. Best bite was when the wind was blowing. When the wind quit, the bite died. The few legal crappies that I caught and kept, they had very small egg sacks in them. A ways to go yet. Lot of people at the casway at 3:30 pm. Going to have a crew of guys and boats weather permitting next Sat. Will post results.

Default Sayer

3 of us fished Sayers yesterday from 9 am till the thunderstorm. We fished from the Upper Greens launch up the lake thru the no wake. We caught fish all day but they were all dinks. We only caught 3-4 legal ones all day. We got off the lake just in time before the thunderstorm. Got boat on triler half assed to get it out of the water. Sat in the truck for 30 mins. or so waiting for storm to stop. When it stopped put boat back in enough to get on trailer. Hope no one got caught out in the storm. Had to run bilge pump for 10 mins. to get water out of the boat.

I fished Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and caught over 80 crappie. I only could keep 16 though. I fished greens run, and the road bed near the howard launch.

On a side note, I caught 3 largemouth bass, one was 17" , 3.5 lbs.

I hope that is a sign that the bass fishing is being restored on the lake.
