That mighty Bluegill
I saw this on another website and thought it to be profound. Thought I'd share it with all of you.:D:D:D:D:D:D
...................................
Everyone that fishes can recall catching bluegill, usually the very first fish caught by beginning anglers. Don't make the mistake in thinking Bluegills are a kids fish, grown men pursue this little dynamo, why you ask, several reasons- They are everywhere; they are great fun and a challenge on ultra light tackle, they taste great, and will readily take most baits & lures- to name a few. In addition, there are some real monster Gills out there, a trophy Bluegill is a prize worth every bit as mush as a trophy Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass, Even more so since a trophy class Gill is a rarer creature in deed.
The Bluegill, like all fish, are very well adapted to their environment. Their senses honed over thousands of years of evolution. Bluegill primarily use four senses, for navigation - to find food – and to detect danger, they are sound/vibration, smell, sight.
Bluegill are mainly sight feeders, and like most sunfish, will feed in an up-wards & forward direction, much more readily than in a downward direction, so your presentations should reflect this truth the next time your on the water.
Bluegill prefer clear to slightly stained water where they can take advantage of their good eye sight. Bluegills as a rule approach their potential meals from behind, then either hesitate or trail their prey as if evaluating the meal. If all seems ok, they rush forward to grab the morsel.

Those 'Gills have your number. "If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got!" Change something you are doing when you are not happy with the results.... Speed, Presentation, color etc. Most of all have CONFIDENCE in what you are doing.
I always tip a tiny 1/64 or 1/80 jig or a plain #6 hook with a waxworm and do pretty well when chasing 'Gills. If they are in deep H20 use a modified Ky rig. If they are shallower, a slip bobber presentation works fine. Just slow down the retrieve and let the 'Gills inspect the meat for "Expiration date." They need time to read the barcodes on the lure.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

So far this year the big Bluegills have been slow. Instead, my old flyrod has been bending to a bunch of bass. Fun for sure, but I'm a Bluegill man. I'll be glad when the bass move off and the Gills will be chasing my poppers again.

We have a good time catching them and when it's slow have a good time trying to find them.
