I am so happy to find this website! Nice to see there is a few other ladies around too

I love to fish and I don't really care what I fish for. My son (17) and I are going out again on Sunday if it doesn't rain. I have been doing a lot of reading and I notice that there is so many of you that use live bait instead of lures. We always use lures. There is one small stretch we go on the Murray River in VA and we usually have great success. We use Panther Martins red and silver or we use Little O's made by Cotton Cordell (floater) the best ones are the silver and black. What made me start checking sites is that I only have two of the Little Os left and I can not find them anywhere! It looks to me like they have been discontinued so I am looking for something different. We catch everything on these so I am very disappointed that I can not find them. Two weeks ago my son and I went (my husband doesn't care to fish all day like we do) I caught 38 and my son 12. Any tips you guys have for lures I would appreciate very much!

Can't help you on the Little O's, but I'm sure you can find a suitable replacement. There are a lot of little "silver and black" crankbaits on the market. For starters, check out:

Also, Bass Pro Shops has a line of Micro Cranks for Crappie, etc. that are reasonably priced and really good quality too. I know what you mean about the Little O's though. My grandfather swore by them... Oh, the BPS baits also have a great selection of colors too.

You didn't mention what you were trying to catch. River-crankbait-.....smallmouths? Rock bass? Just curious, cause it might help with lure recommendations. All the above mentioned lures are good for a variety of species.

These lures will catch anything. Cheap, easy, & fun to throw. My favorite lure. Usually outfishes my partners with the slimey live stuff. Don't be afraid to experiment with 'em. Try different size jigs, bodies, & blades. I like 1/16 & 1/8 oz jigs with a 1-1/2 in tube for Crappie/Panfish but catch Bass & Walleye, even Pike sometimes on these too. I start with tiny Jigs/blades in the Spring & keep getting bigger into Summer & Fall. Seldom use anything bigger than 1/4 oz though.

Bluegill

you might want to consider trying Roadrunners (I prefer the marabou ones, myself). If you aren't picky about what stretches your string, you'll get a lot of different species on a Roadrunner. 1/16oz is a good "all around" size ... but, 1/32oz can be deadly on Bluegill & other Sunfish.
About every species of fish that I've caught on live bait, jigs, spinners, and small crankbaits ... I've also caught on Roadrunners

Casting or trolling, they seem to work on a variety of species of fish.
