This is done with a 2 liter clear bottle also. Tie an inproved clinched knot to the eyelet of jig. Put it inside the bottle with water and see how it sits. Usually it will sit with the back end lower then the front. Take the jig out and hold the jig with thumb and pointing finger and pull the line toward the back of the jig. There you will see the knot on the back side of the eyelet. Set it back inside the 2 liter bottle and check it again. The purpose is to get the jig to run horizonal. Once you have it in the horizonal position check where the knot is on the eyelet . Keep the knot in that position and you should have the jig working in the horizonal position all the time. Just put it near a stump and watch it go down. Hope this little trick helps in the presentation of the lure.

not necessarily keith if your using any sort of plastic grub tail or something it would alter the weight even on a perfectly balanced jig... i just tested both knots out with scoots method above and was able to get the jig to sit better with cinch knot after changing tails. different tails will have different weights and boyuantcies(sp).. with the loop knot the head tended to sit lower then the tail.. this seemed not to be an issue with smaller 1/64th or such hair jigs but when you got up to 1/16th or 1/8th jigs there was a big difference. i tried numerous jigs brands also from home made to 9 or 10 different store brands, minnow heads, bullet heads, ballheads and both with or without collars. the cinch knot allowed for there to be some justability. the loop knot it would fall into easiest spot and upon tring in aqarium loop knot would tend to move to the front if you were reeling in at all

That first presentation to a crappie is very inportant. That is why I experiment in a 2 liter bottle when the weather is bad or just can't get out there. Documentation is the key. I also tried the surgeon loop, seems to work pretty good. It failed on heavier jigs (heavier then 1/16th ounce). The only thing bad thing about this is you have to pull the knot back toward the point of the hook just about everytime you pull it out of the water. It really pays off by doing this. The first presentation to the fish has to be perfect to fool those that are really not in the mood. Thanks for all inputs sent. Try it, it works

You dont have to keep re-setting the knot if you use a drop of crazy glue on it. Give my method a try. It may add to your arsenal.

Just use a Fas-snap or a surgens loop and you dont have to worry about knot position. They hang perfect every time.

No they dont. Mine always hang tail heavy. Thats why i use the trilene knot and snug it up tight.

I was asked to put a few pictures of how I tune my stoppers and my jigs in a 2 liter plastic bottle. Well here are a few.

This first is a picture of stopper and jig in bottle.


This next is a picture of a stopper from the store( on rght) and a tuned stopper for a 1/16oz black and chat. jig. By the way this bait is what I use 95% of the time.


This next is a tuned and balanced jig on a snapswivel. The next next is an untuned and balanced jig, Different type jig head on a snapswivel. See the difference in the way it sets in the water.



The next two or three pictures are tied with different knots, but it is the same jig.



The first knot is improved clinched knot. The second is surgeon's knot, and the third is the Trilene knot. I am asking you'll if a tuned and balanced jig is tied on any knot or swivel if it should hang horizonal.

I hope this will solve a few questions, and give the 2 liter bottle a try and have faith that your rig is ready for the task.
