Default fly fishing when water is muddy?

Is it a waste of time to fly fish for bream when the pond, lake, or river is muddy? The storms around here have been keeping the Catawba River pretty chocolafied. I plan on a Wateree trip next weekend

Bream will sometimes hit small poppers in pretty muddy water, near shoreline cover during the warm months. Have caught crappie on poppers but don't recall if it was ever muddy.
