Question Catching blue gill 101?

Hey fellas I mostly fish for Crappie, but I've been wanting to cross over and try to start fishing for blue gill's. A guy at work tells me that he uses the fake worms, but any specific's on how to rig a pole up would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! I've seen the fake worms and also the worm weights, but how exactly should I rig up my pole to catch these.

TX!

p.s. I'm in Oklahoma City if that helps.

I used the Foodsource brand fake worms yesterday and did pretty good. Just make sure you cover the hook point and you'll catch fish.

Wax worms on a # 8 hook will get you bit. Wax worms on a 1/64 jig is dynamite for Bull Gills and Shellcrackers. Use a slip float for depth.

It's a small hook, split shot sinker, a cork and a cricket. Thats pretty much all I ever used and have done well through the years. Good fishing to ya and let us know how ya make out. Full moon's coming up so the fishing should start getting good, I've always heard that 3 days before and 3 days after full moon are best for Bluegill.

I fished Cats all my life and am really lovin the panfish now too. For artificials, I also use Foodsource. I tip a 1/32oz Cabin Creek Popeye Jig (99 cents) with a 1" mealworm. The Popeye was recomended to me a while back on this site, and they are great. I found a hole here on a Ozark Missouri river and every catch is split between Rainbow Trout and Gills with those Popeyes depending on how I fish.

For more weight, put a small spitshot 8" above the jig.

Here's the thread where I asked a similiar question - the fellers were right

Wax Worms and Maggot Question
