Default Does anybody ever target bream with jigs on purpose ?

Was just curious, if anybody ever goes for bream using jigs much ??
I catch quite a few while crappie fishing but never just pile them up like when using live bait.
I've piled them up using fly fishing gear, but usually come up nearly empty handed when I go with jigs.
    Any tips ??

All I use is flies and jigs. Flip a 1/64th black jig toward the bank or bed and retrieve lowly. Just enough speed to keep off bottom.

You obviously have not spent much time reading this forum.

LedHed and Alphahawk have posted extensively on jig fishing for gills.

I use jigs at least 50% of the time for gills. (Over the last couple of years, it's near 100%.) I use a slow, steady "do nothing" retrieve, just like I do for crappie. Almost any small jig body will work, but I would not go heavier than 1/32 oz. My current favorite is the 1/64 oz trout magnet. Solid red is my #1 color followed by solid black. Tipping the jig with bait will often help, particularly if you're not used to fishing jigs.

A piece of Nightcrawler and small plain jig all summer.Ice fishing plain jig tipped with a wax worm, it's worked for me for 40+years.

Yup. Love a little 1" or 1 .5" tube in an earthly color with 1 /32 or 1/64 oz slip in head tipped with Gulp maggot or a 1/32 roadrunner with 1" curltail or slider.

I fish jigs for gills quite often, most times I fish them under a tiny float, and creep them through the beds. After the spawn,on one lake I fish, the bigger gills seemed to relocate back in some shady coves that are filled with cover. The water in these coves is around 10/12' deep,I slay them using a 1/32 jig tipped with a mealworm or a honey worm under a slip bobber.

What I do is take the 2lb gear and put it in places where fish would be likely to be. I get gills, crappie and about anything else that swims. I take the fly rod some, but lately my 1/64 get an awful lot of play. As already said, dark earth tone jigs do well but I think you'll get some on about any color. Beetle Spins also do well and are pretty much weedless. If you try one of those, give a 1/32 in white with a red spot a try. Does well for me. Nothing beats the busy day of the 'Gills and their cousins.

1/64 black hair jig is all I ever use for gills or ears.

Never live bait only a jig with some power bait.
