I have a Yamaga Blanks Blue Current I like a lot. It's great for gills, but it's handled cats up to 3-4#.
6'5", rated for 3# line.
I'm looking to buy a new ultralight spinning rod and reel and I think I would like to give a JDM a try, if anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be very much appreciated!

What specie will you be targeting most with it? I did a write up on here about JDM rods relating to panfish. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/panfi...ating-panfish/
While JDM rods in the 120-180 dollar price range are nice, when you step up to the 220-400 dollar price range you get your hands on something that is off the charts when it comes to weight....sensitivity. Now before anyone jumps on here to make comments such as "I would not pay that much for any rod" just let me say I don't push anyone to even try these rods. They are expensive.....they do break.....there is a warranty but it is useless here in the states. I have broken 2 of them....or I should say a relative in my boat broke them in the rod locker of all places.......yet I have replaced both rods by purchasing the top section only....saved me a little money anyway. As for the reels I would start with either a Daiwa Luvias or a Shimano Twin Power in the 2004 size. That is the entry level of JDM reels that are actually made in Japan. All JDM rods and reels are not necessarily made in Japan. I have bought around 20 high end JDM rods and 6 reels. Be warned....if you go down this road it can become addictive. It is very hard to explain what it is like to fish with a rod that has the sensitivity they have.

What is your favorite rod - length- action? I can only talk about UL gear. IMO not a lot of difference with reels, mostly bearings. I like the Shimano Stradic, Pflueger Patriarch, and Quantum Smoke PT 10 (don't make them anymore) PT15 is good. I use 2lb. test on all my reels. The rods are rated for UL, mostly 1 to 6lb. test and made of carbon. Some are probably composite.
If you like mushy rods - UL, SUL trout rods. Shorter handles.
Aji & Mebaru rods are for saltwater and are designed to cast lures. Most of the rods I have are fast action slow tip - some are a medium action. Majority are solid tip. I like the Aji rods for casting and the Mebaru for the fight. Both style rods have longer handles - good for casting & fighting the fish.
There are also UL Bass rods - stiffer.
I am far from easy on my tackle/gear and haven't broke a rod yet. Lucky....
PannieJoe thanked you for this post
I myself love JDM ultralight rods. Look into Majorcraft.
I just got a Phenix Elixer 7ft. 6in. rod and I can't say enough about it. I put a Shimono C1 4 1000 on it and it is the perfect combination. It was expensive but well worth it in the long run.
