    Default Hefner ...

Went fishing today with my dad along the Hefner dam.

Winds out of the North at 25 mph, pretty cold for today's fishing, but we manage to catch crappie along the dam, our freezer was full, so we did not keep any. Crappie size was in the mid 8 inches.

I also manage to catch a Flat head catfish on my 1/8 oz jig that I use to fish for crappie.

It took my more than 30mins to get the monster in. Was glad my dad was there to help out to get the fish in.

The fish weight on the digital scale 23 lbs.

Equipment use.. My crappie combo, St. Croix rod ML 6-10 lb, fishing line was 4lb line and my Daiwa 1500 Luvias which had an awesome drag system.

Yup, we left after I caught the fish, too tire so we decide to end the day early. I set the hook on the fish around 4:30pm, got done around 5pm.

Nobody was on the lake besides us, they all went home. We did too but with a nice keeper on light fishing equipment.

I will be out there tomorrow, so I will see you out there.

Wow!! Were you dragging that jig on the bottom? Fantastic catch! I almost never fish at Hefner, but how'd you do it? Did you use a bobber? Cast and retrieve? Thanks for the help!

Thanks Jake..... Ya, take me a while to get the patience to haul it in. My dad told me to take my time.

The crappie out there was biting near bottom, I cast out there and let my jig sink to the bottom then I work my jig toward the shore.

I always been fishing with casting and retrieve, no slip corking for me, just not my style.

I met kcir out there on Fri, lol I talk to him a bit, he was fishing with a couple slip corkin at the lighthouse, I came with my dad we show how it is done with cast and retrieve. We was throwing it back in the water left and right. I have no boat, so I've been bank fishing for years and years.

Do you just cast and wait and retrieve slowly? That's all I've ever used to catch crappie, and it's definitely a blast.

Ya, back then we was not able to reach the range where the fish was at. But now I am able to cast far and catch them. You saw my setup kcir, and I was catching fish on it.

I have change my fishing gear a lot since back then, to discover what I needed to fish Hefner at such deep waters and get to the range where they was at.

See ya on the lake kcir.

My Dad fishes Hefner out of a float tube often. I have been out there a few times with him over the years. You guys who cast out and count down have a real talent. I have tried it out there and I never catch anything. I have loaded up on the crappie out of the tube though.
