Default Allens Point - Bait Shop Closed for good

For those who may have been used to buying their minnows or fishing at Allens Point in the springtime, I found this posted on ther website today:

    February 26, 2009

We will attempt to still give some fishing information on this page, but the updates will not be daily this year. The bait store is closed for good. Not enough business.

The parking will be limited to vehicles with a boat and trailer. Anyone meeting a boat in a seperate vehicle must park on Winganon road and walk down.

There are no areas open to the general public for fishing. Allen's Point shoreline is restricted for our campers use.

The ramp is open, weather permitting of course. Parking is limited, so please park responsibly so others can also park.

We apologize for any inconvienence, but we must concentrate our energies on our rv park. We have rv sites available for those sportsmen that need a place to get away and be close to the action (or away from the home fromt!). Tell anyone you know that is looking for such a hunting or fishing get-away spot to set up their trailer permanent! We also still allow weekend and week long stays, contrary to what I hear is being rumored around the area. Just leave a message on the phone (918) 275-4719 or an email. We will get back to you.
    Thank you.

Sad..Terry and Neil always took good care of the fisherman.

That is too bad, they were nice folks there. Does that mean that the ramp won't have a fee anymore? I've always just bought the year pass...

I didn't think they could charge a ramp fee?

I never paid one and have launched from their since it was installed. I always bought minnows from Jack, and after he sold it to Terry and Neil, from them.

They've always charged me a ramp fee even though i have the corp pass. I never questioned it because i thought it was a private ramp. He owes me some back pay. Lol
    Was that a bite?

If I remember right, the sign inside the bait shop said a day launch pass was $2, and a year pass was $10. I also thought it was a private ramp.

    Default Ramp fee

I have always had to pay. I was told it was a private ramp. I wonder how we find out?
Common sense isn't always that common!

Never launched there. Never had reason to stop and buy a thing. Guess guys like me didn't help them. Not intentional, just never had a reason to stop. Hope their camping business is strong. Probably wouldn't hurt if the Corp let them put a dock in with a fuel pump, but then again, Red Bud wouldn't be the only game in town then would it?

Nice idea, but....that location would never be able to sustain any kind of dock without an enormous breakwater. I've been in the baitshop when 70 mph winds came through with a thunderstorm. Those waves were huge coming in there. Looked like some of those waves you see the surfers ride in Hawaii.

Terry and Neil, the former owners, always took good care of the fisherman. The minnows were always in good condition , at a fair price.
