Started out in Double Creek and had one little bite, water temp was 56 in places and 49 in others. Tried shallow wood and spider rigged the channel which is only about 6 foot deep with no luck. I moved to Talala creek about noonthirty. Tried spider riggin from the boat ramp towards the main lake out of the wind by the south bank. I caught 2 dinks and 1 nice sandy. Water temp was 53. I saw an elderly gentleman in an old (very old) green v-bottom boat. He had 10 beautiful slabs, all males with spawning colors. When I saw him fishing he was on the south bank across from the boat ramp jigging and then he moved back in the creek. I looked at the jigs he had tied on and they were just some small grubs with little or no tails to them. One yellow and the other chartreuse. He didn't have a trolling motor so he was just tying up and jigging a spot before moving on. I had to almost yell so that he could hear me so the conversation was short and I didn't ask him for any more info.
    Hey, tell me a story!

I bet the 56° water temp takes a plunge after the coming weekend. Just wondering...did you go from Double to Talala Creek by boat?

I forget the old coots name, but he is a diehard crappie fisherman. BTW, THAT is HIS spot! He really gets ticked and just down and out if anyone is ever sitting in THAT spot. I didn't see him much last year, kinda figured he passed. I'm glad to hear he's still at it. He's one old timer that loves his Crappie. I have fished the same spot many times. Any time I happen to be on it and he shows up, I flag him on in and yeild to him. The way I figure, God's been keepin him goin just so he can enjoy another day on the water. The old fart is set in his ways, but he's like a hero to me.

Does anyone fish Blue Creek? If so your info would help. Have not fished Talala Creek in about 3 years, backed into a stump when backing out from ramp did major damage to my outboard unit, don't know how many more stumps are just waiting for me. But after reading this site I may try it again. Thanks

The stumps are there...just have to be careful. As soon as the boat clears the trailer, ya gotta put it in gear and turn. Been there and done it too many times

    Gman,
I did not go by boat. The first time I ever put in at Double Creek I saw a guy take off from the ramp on plane going towards the lake. A guy in another boat tied up to a tree on the way out tried to flag him down to no avail. (Probably thought he was going to get cussed at for blasting by) The guy in the boat got about 150yds out when he realized the water was only about a foot or so deep and came off plane. He spent the next 45 minutes trying to get off that mud flat. I hope he took his boat straight to a mechanic to get the impeller changed on his motor cause he threw mud and everything else sky high trying to get back to some deeper water.

I visited with the old man about two weeks ago in Talala Creek. He had his dog with him. He said he is 91 years old. He is still able to load and unload his boat by himself. I told him I hope I am able to fish when I'm 91. I didn't have time to fish yesterday but I drove down to Talala Creek and saw him and his dog fishing.
