I have done best with roadrunners, curly tail grubs and small crankbaits or rattle traps.

Can a guy head up there a little early to target the walleye, since they spawn earlier? Is there enough up there to merit that kinda trip?

I do not ever remember catching any walleye in the verdigris, but never tried either.

    How far are you driving?
    Merit? Called fishing.
I have seen some nice Wallys caught from a deep hole below the ripples. Seems best time is at dusk.

Yeah lightning creek is more south...Big Creek is up north and you can get down there just north of Nowata a couple miles where there is a turnoff back to the east...Sorry I cannot remember the highway but its right before it goes from the 4 lane back to 2. Right after you cross the bridge there on the left I think is where you can get in around a ramp.

A really good area we used to fish is in Salt Creek. It was east and south of Nowata but not as far as Lightning Creek, but pretty close. You could catch some good slabs up in there during the spring as well.

If you fish the ripples coming in on the west side of the river is easiest to get to the river. If you check a map you can see north of Nowata the river makes a bend and comes back south and west then goes west and north again. That is you turn off 169. Wading is the best way to fish there. If there is a crowd the Sandies are Running. Again the wallys seem to bite best at dusk.
