Thread: OT: good buy??? 5 hp B&S OB motor 549.95

does any one know any thing about the briggs and stratton 5 hp out board motor i came arcoss a brand new 1 and there only wanting like $549.95 for it would it be worth the money? im wanting a OB motor for my little 10' jon boat can any one help me out if its a good buy im going to go pick it up 1st thing in the morning

I considered buying one quite some time ago, until I heard one run. They sound like the Goodyear Blimp directly overhead.

It is a lawn mower engine on a shaft. HMMMMMMM

a bit noisey but if it's a brigg's it should last for ever. price seems more then fair .

My regular fishing buddy bought one almost 3 years ago. We have had no problems with it. It's louder than a Merc, but not bad enough to turn heads. I can tell you this for sure about the 5hp, it sips gas real slow! We fish almost every Sat, and go months between fill ups. And it pushes his 12 ft flat bottom just fine.
