    Default Eufaula - Gentry Creek

I remember fishing Gentry Creek with my dad, but that's been 15 to 20 yrs ago. Seems like it had some standing timber in it above the power line that runs over the lake. I drove down there several weeks ago,and from the Gentry Creek Recreation area, I could not see any standing timber. I'm sure it's just broken off.

How dangerous is this area to run after this many years? It seems like the channel is over on the South side...but I can't remember.

    Any help appreciated.

All you are saying is correct it is safe to run a little past the power lines on south side you will most likely be able to tell for sure the channel zig zags so be careful fishing last year was so so up there down South seems much better or has in the last couple years I have seen 300 fish days up North when the water is right hope that might be this year as it is not as far a drive from Broken Arrow

I used to fish it every year during the 70's & 80's it can be phenominal on the big fish as George stated when the waters right. Although we never ran the channel back west, just fished areas closer to the park.

BG & Rippers are correct. 3 springs ago when the water was about 5 feet below normal the fishing was great. We caught more fish than any year we can remember and all of them came north of I-40 in the Deep Fork arm. I hope it is good up there this year it is a lot closer drive.

This is no fish story; We learned the hard way fishing the shallow spawn up there. After getting line broken & hooks straightened out trying to wrestle big crappie out of the buckbrush I resorted to a bass flippin stick, 20lb. line & a 1/8-3/16 oz. bass flippin jig with the weed guard trimmed down......think it's a fluke deal? Try it this spring up there you wont loose near as many slabs....I dare ya.

I can also remember the fishing being phenominal many years ago. I got into fishing Oologah, since it was closer, but I am not seeing the quality of fish out of there the last several years, so I want to try some old haunts.

My main concern is stumps running up west from the Gentry Creek recreation area, because I could remember the trees years ago, and they've all broken off now. I'll have to find someone running up that way or just cruise it until I find a safe route.
