Hello board. After spending $40 on new Crappie tackle and striking out at pumpback this weekend, I'm turning my sights to Yahola. I fish this lake frequently in the spring on my lunchbreaks. I've caught a ton of decent sized Sandbass, and every now and then I catch a Crappie or two. I've tried to target Crappie specifically but never been successful... I always catch them by accident while fishing for Sandbass.
Does anyone know any specific techniques/areas of the lake where I can look to have a good day Crappie fishing?
Thanks again!
Yahola, wow, been eons since I fished there. I wonder if they still allow boats in there? If they do, I would suggest just doing a slow troll, which is a poor mans spider rigging. Just drop three or four lines down at different depths while moving very, very slow. Try various depths. You can use a minnow, a jig, or a minnow tipped with a jig. I bet I haven't fished that lake since I was 14.
A penny saved is a Congressional spending oversight.
Hey Crappie Reaper, no boats are allowed. Everything needs to be done from the bank. 2 years ago the Wildlife Dept. released their list of top 10 Crappie lakes and Yahola was one of them. Who would have thought?! I've see some really nice 13-15" Crappie come out of there. The big one's I've seen are healthy too... real tall with thick shoulders. Would sure love a mess of those...
Bassman, I fished Yahola a few years back when the lake was drained down for repairs. I fished the rip-rap dividers about mid-lake on the east side. I would think that fishing off either side of these dividers would be productive. The crappie I caught were in the 10-11 inch range. One other spot you might try is the northeast corner of the lake. There were boat docks there for many years and lots of crappie caught there. Hope this is of some help.
Bassman you have a p.m.
