I fished Oolagah this afternoon. Air temp was around 70* winds N NE at 15 and gusty. Started at the south end of the lake and worked my way northward. First stop Blue Creek. Water temp mid 50*s. Caught a huge slab on the second cast with a Blue Thunder in about 7 feet of water next to a stump. Unfortunately, that was the highlite of the day. Did not get a tap the rest of the afternoon, nor did my buddy in the back of the boat. We fished north all the way to Spencer Creek, nothing else. Maybe tomorrow, we will be out there!
Same thing for me went from salt to kentucky. fished the lake and way back in the creeks and nothing but 3 sand bass. pretty dissapionting
Its all about how ya wiggle it!
Same here, started at redbud and worked north. Not one strike. Talked to several people. Saw one fish in the boat, everyone else had a bad day
Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it!
Talala Creek late this afternoon was SLOW! Very few fish being caught.
Went to Spencer Creek about 4:00pm, mostly to try a few new gadgets I put on the boat this winter. There was an older gentleman fishing the pipes straight across from the boat ramp. He had a dozen nice slabs. Said he caught about 30 small ones to get the slabs. These weren't just keepers, they were slabs. He was leaving and suggested I give it a try and I caught 2 small ones. That was it for me. Water temp was 51 to 52.4. He was jig fishing with black and chartrues and black and orange jigs about 10 foot deep. Said he fished out of the park area last week and did very well. The wind forced him to fish the pipes today.
Hey, tell me a story!
Kenny
Thanks for the update. I've never been to the pipes, but I heard an old man talking about them the last time I was out there with my uncle a few months ago. He was on the bank cutting trees, but saw the jigs I had tied on by the ramp and knew I was going crappie fishing. Said he has caught several NICE size fish there, I couldn't find it, but I wasn't really concerned about fishing that day either. We were trying all the gadgets on the boat that were new additions. Sorry you didn't get into them. Maybe next time, right? MM
"EVERY PRO WAS A ROOKIE ONCE!!!"
whats up with these old guys at oologah catching these slabs. Me and my budy were up there fishing and an old guy showed us up. He even told us what he was using and he still put it on us. Guess it just goes to show us younger guys there is still plenty to be learned.
I sure hope so right now grand lake is being really tough to me and a lot of others. The wildlife and fisheries department came up and talked to us about recent studies. They said, over the last five years or so the inflow to the lake has been down which makes for low planktin. Because the newly hatched crappie feed on planktin they have struggled for food resulting in low numbers. Hopefully with the rain from last year and this year the crappie numbers on grand will return to normal.
