    Default Keystone Damn

They opened the gates yesterday evening at Keystone and opened up the south side of the damn (which has been closed since last years flood). The crappie are biting pretty good and the stripers are even better. I caught 4 stripers on my crappie jig, and the guys that were fishing for stripers were catching a lot of really nice ones. There are a lot of crappie in there, but most of them are holding close to the bottom (probably because of all the stripers).

I saw a lot of them in the 5lb range, and several 10-15lb range. I was there this morning and again this evening and saw at least a dozen stringers full of pretty nice size stripers. Not very many crappie fishermen down there. The crappie were definitely slower this evening than they were this morning, but the wind was really whipping my line around and I'm sure I missed a lot of hits. I will definitely be there before daylight in the morning.

May just meet you down there in the mornin ketchum. Hearing about striper and crappie activity is music to my ears! What will you be drivin or wearin so I can say hi. I'll be in a green minivan tomorrow mornin and wearing a virginia tech hat(VT). Maybe I'll make it! If you get a chance do you know what they were catching the stripers on?

I was fishing from the bank and just working the eddies and slower moving water. It looked like there was a variety of jigs being used to catch the stripers. I saw a few using Sassy Shad, but more of them using smaller jigs above a sinker (maybe 3/4oz?).

I'll be driving a 3/4T Blue Dodge P/U with 2 crappie emblems on the rear windshield. I'm usually wearing my tan Corona cap...and this morning I'll definitely be wearing my blue rain jacket. The wind is blowing pretty bad this morning and it sounds like we're going to get some heavy rain.

The crappie were really slow this morning, but the striper action was still good. I think I'll go back and fish for some stripers this afternoon....and give the crappie a break..

That was probably me. We got there around 6 and fished for crappie but didn't have much luck. Went back this afternoon to fish for stripers and they closed the gates at around 2pm, which I thought was kinda strange since the lake is still up about 3ft and the forecast is calling for heavy rains.
