    Default keeping minnows

Has anyone had good luck keeping minnows alive between fishing trips? Any pointers that might help?

i know a man that keeps them alive for weeks and weeks. he has one of those plastic or fiberglass sinks like you can get at lowe's. he puts lake water in it out of his livewells and has one of those little bubble pumps like yuo get at walmart he hangs on the side. feeds them a little fish food and thats about it. if its going to be really really cold he hangs a light bulb above the water to keep it from freezing.

I use and old ice chest with an aireator in it and you can keep them alive for weeks if you keep putting in some fresh water every few days. Just take a small container to dip out the old water and put fresh back in. put the ice chest in the boat to go fishing and your ready to catch them.

Just make sure if your using fresh water it's not city water as the chlorine will kill them, well water is ok.

Great point Zimzam is correct with the not using city water. I forgot to say that in my post because I have well water and don't think about the chlorine in the water.

Plain old 10 gal aquarium for me. If you (as I) must use city water, just use a stabilizer/dechlorinator. It's in the pet section at wal-mart. A few drops to a teaspoon and you're good.

Default How do you fish the minnow?

I never have been a very proficient minnow fisherman. Every time I try em I have the urge to hook a minnow and set the rod down and sit back and birdwatch (not literally, just not watching the rod ) I've seen some guys fish minnows similar to how I fish jigs and do really good. How do y'all fish em?

Jiggy I put out four rods with minows under a slipcork set them at different depths unless I see on the graph alot of fish holding at a certain depth. Then I have a jig pole in my hand for exploring and hope they dont all take off at the same time lol. If it starts getting busy like it often does then I'm down to 1 or 2 rods and put the jig pole up.
