i know this is crappie.com not sandbass.com but i was just wondering if any of u guys like to go after the white bass when they run in creeks? they ease the pain of waiting for the crappie to start spawning. and are a heck of alot of fun to catch. anybody know of any good creeks that they run in around here? im only familiar with a few in texas.
I see your from Norman, they have some pretty good runs off T-bird in the little river. Some guys say they do good up by the Franklin bridge. Don't know if they are fishing from the bank or a boat. I've never gotten that far up the river. Also by Sailboat Marina along the point.
Don't know about any creeks around here but you can find them schooling on lake Drapper and T-bird. It might be a little early for them haven't been out in awhile to check.
Good Luck and Good Fishing.

Every now and then I'll be crappie fishing at T-bird and see the school come by hitting top water. If the crappie are biting, I try to resist, but if they're slow, I chase the sandies. I haven't got the timing right to chase them up the creeks, but I've caught the school out on the main body of the lake several times. Happened once at Arcadia too; close to the projejct office. Places I hear the most about them running in the creeks are way up North: Kaw and Canton.
Jeremiah 16:16a "But now I will send for many fishermen," declares the Lord, "and they will catch them."
Sorry, I have no interest at all in wasting my time messing with the Sandies.

You can find them coming into feeder creeks off river channels above or below lakes, or after this big rain event creeks feeding directly into the lakes.
If all you catch at first are small males dont give up, they arrive first ahead of the females, just try again later. Be prepared to lose alot of lures because to be effective you need to keep your lure right off bottom, breaks in the current such as behind logjams are excellent places to start also try the Arkansas river, the sun warms up the sandbars earlier than other water so the bite can start 2 or 3 weeks ahead of lake / creek water, just find a big deep / eddy pool coming off a shallow sandbar & your in business...good fishing!!

I am with you reaper wouldn't want to chase those nastys, last year I was at Eufaula in Duchess creek had a fisherman in the boat with me that didn't care what we caught the crappie were slow and I was looking for them and the sand bass were hitting top everywhere in the cove I thought he was going to fall out of the boat wanting to go after them. I continued on finally i asked if he wanted to chase them and it was yes b4 I could get it out. LOL
Same with me last year, i was fishing for crappie and it was slow and we saw some sand bass surfacing chasing bait and we went after them and had a blast. Took a bunch home and fillet them out and they tasted a lot better than i thought they would, turned out to be pretty good.
My electric knife will NEVER touch a sand bass ... never.![]()

I had one of the best times fishing last year chasing the sandies. My brother in laws dad has a aluminum barge
(sea ark) and we took it to choteau bend. We ran up to the lowwater and tore them up. On this trip we took my son and my nephew. ( which doesn't get to go very much ) My boy is 10 and would rather chase the sandies than sit over a brush pile. As far as eating sandies the only thing wrong is there inconsistant. I've had some I liked and then there were a few times I would rather not remember. So good luck, sand bass need love to.
